Tribute to Croky_b: the TRIUMPH

I try to keep the pace with the body paintwork; last week Cedric aka Croky_b passed by our office and left a Triumph repro body. This was my next challenge: paint a body that I don't like... (I'm not very fond of the Triumph body nor its box art style).
Here's a little pics digest of the work in progress:

which finally ended like that:

I used decals from the Optima Mid Custom SP (repro by Marwan), Javelin, Optima Pro, Optima, Ultima Pro. I didn't use the official Triumph decals at all because I hate their flash colours and their style in general. If someday I find an Alps MD5000 printer I'll make some custom design Triumph logo, but for now I prefer to keep the car "nameless". The front wheels are Duratrax aluminium for Kyosho (Tamiya Fox/Wild One style), the rear wheels are custom made by an unknown asian guy. (If anybody knows who made them I'm interested). Oddly, the rear tires aren't Tamiya Supergripper Pinspike tires, but a very good quality "goodyear" repros.

The sleek side profile...
I modified a bit the wing (an optima mid one, repro by Keith/Kamtec), because I felt it was placed too high with the original wingstay (UMW-1 which I adore, hence the transparent part in the wing) by cutting the sides and lowered them (pasted with double sided tape to keep a low tech look). This is the kind of thing one can do with reproes (I wouldn't dare doing it with genuine wing)... :-D

I ordered some Tamiya drivers (to be painted) to fit the empty driver seat ;-)

Thanks to Croky_b, Marwan, Keith.

PS: Croky_b, I'm eagerly waiting for your custom made Triumph special undertray! :-D

Tribute to Marwan2: Ultima Pro

I just finished painting and decorating my Ultima Pro nearly box-art.
The differences are the window shapes (more "optima"like on the sides, and more generous at the front - I always felt that Turbo Ultima body has a too small frontal window, so this one is huuuuge compared to the official box-art one), Lazer ZX-R wing stay (UMW-1) and some graphical lines here and there. I also choosed to keep the tail of the original body, as I felt it was more balanced like that. The wing cut is also a bit different, in order to match the bodyshape of the tail. And one can notice the ceiling window as well, mimicking the Optima Mid Custom body (which will follow).
The decals are repro work from Marwan Al Nusif, the body and the wing are from Keith (Kamtec UK). Thanks to both of them for their commitment to Kyosho vintagists! m^_^m

Ultima hopped up by Gerolf from Dusseldorf

If you had followed Optima House you perhaps remember Gerolf from Dusseldorf and his wonderful Javelin. Now he put his efforts on a Ultima 1st gen, fitted with reinforced Aluminium chassis (bronze anodized) and platinum Option House shocks, Racing clutch, Spa 240WS motor, motor guard, Dirt Burners Alu wing. I think the metallic paint choice do really justice to the chassis.
Mmmh... Just wondering what the "22" refers to...?!?
As usual, very clean pictures, well done, Gerolf! ;-)
Greetings from cloudy Brussels (Gerolf and I used to joke about our respective weather in our mails)!

87 Worlds Joel Johnson Ultima

The event that propelled the name Ultima to the RC world's recognition was the winning podium of the '87 offroad Worlds Championship in England. The 3 best places were occupied by Ultima drivers, followed by natural predators Asso's RC10. It was truly a premiere for Kyosho (followed by many victories on 4WD Gas 1/8 Offroad with the Infernoes most notably). The 1st place driver was Joel 'Magic' Johnson, who now works as senior expert for Kyosho USA's RC racing dev department.

- Trinity custom FRP chassis
- Trinity Monster Pure Gold double motor
- Tekin 190 Pro ESC
- Novak Ner2x Receiver
- Sanyo SC Trinity Pack
- Front Kyosho Tomahawk tire, Rear Option House Hard square type
- Thorp Transmission .
- JG shock stays .

But everyone already knows that ;-)
What is left to us today are some old archivals, scanned from vintage magazines... If anybody has more infos on this one, I'll be happy to post them so send me an email :-D
